Calvin Davis!
Every day this week, we are going to hear from the individual competitors of Team CDR, so you can get to know them a little better and hear how they are feeling about the Games! Check out Teresa Diaz Gendy’s interview here, Jacob Heighes’ interview here, & Sarah Compton’s interview here.
First up we have Calvin Davis!
1. What is a highlight for you from Regionals?
A highlight was Jon overcoming a HUGE MENTAL obstacle in the overhead squat. When he had tried several times and missed and we talked and I told him that he has to believe in himself, I know he can do it, all the CDR fans believe in him also. At that moment I saw that he believed and he went out there and did it!! I was so proud I couldn’t even think straight!!
2. What keeps you motivated to train so hard at the box?
I love training hard and seeing what my body can do. A continual strive to get better keeps me interested. I also love training with Jacob (he is awesome).
3. What max lift would you like to see at the Games?
I would like to see a max clean of some sort. Clean and jerk or a straight clean.
4. What are some of your favorite movements? Least?
Favorite movements are anything heavy or wall balls and rowing (they’re geared a little better for the taller folk). My least favorite is I don’t really have one.
5. What are you most looking forward to at the Games? Is there anything you are nervous about?
I’m most looking forward to looking up in the stands and seeing all the CDR members cheering for us and so excited to be there. I’m also very excited to be with my team and just have a fun time together.
6. Favorite piece of Reebok swag?
Favorite Reebok swag is new shoes.
7. What’s the key to the mental game during competitions?
The key to the mental game is everything. You have to be able to adapt on the fly. When your plan gets changed all the sudden you have to be able to keep your focus and do your work (pick up bar when tired).
8. What’s your favorite part about being a member of Team CDR?
Favorite part about being on the team is representing the most amazing people ever. The CDR community is truly built from so many different types of wonderful, caring and loving people it is truly an honor to go out and represent in a world class competition.
9. What’s something fun or interesting about you that most people at CDR dont know about you?
Something fun or interesting that others don’t know about me is that I love getting pedicures:))
Rachel Davis!
Now we hear from Rachel Davis!
1. What is a highlight for you from Regionals?
Coming from behind with Calvin on our partner wod, lunging towards a massive crowd of screaming CDR members, and making out when we crossed the finish line!
2. What keeps you motivated to train so hard at the box?
I’m motivated to train so hard because I love my teammates. I am able to train so hard because of help from my family. My mom and my sister, Hannah, are always so willing to love on our boys when we have team practices.
Least fav-rope climbs, wall balls, running, rowing
I’m looking forward to enjoying the experience with my team, no matter the outcome, we are going to have a good time! I also look forward to seeing the massive sea of red CDR shirts in the stands. Hearing the cheering and seeing everyone is one of my favorite parts of competing.
I’m nervous about the surprise movements or equipment they might reveal to us when we get there.
