New Year Resolutions:

Staying on Track?

So…it’s no longer the first of January, how have your New Year’s resolutions been going? I know that everyone is really excited to start the new year off with a lot of new goals for their health and fitness, but as life starts to set in and things get hectic, these goals often get put by the wayside. Making resolutions is the first step in reaching your goals, but you need a plan on how to execute them and strategies for how to achieve them when certain things get in the way such as your job, family, kids, school, sickness, finances, etc. Some of these strategies could include making contracts with yourself about what goals you will achieve and sharing this with friends and family. Having your goal public and made aware of by others around you may give you more of an incentive to stick with your goals. Another strategy is to set up a rewards system, where accomplishing certain stages of your goal yields a reward. For example, let’s say your goal is to give up eating sweets at night before bed. You make a plan to gradually decrease your intake of sweets, and every week you are on track you reward yourself with a something, such as a movie, getting your nails done, a massage, or buying a  a magazine. Having a friend or significant other help you in obtaining your goals is a good way to keep you consistent and on track for reducing slip-ups. So…have any of you come up with unique solutions to keep on track of your goals? Achieving these resolutions is also important to us at CDR, and if you are having trouble, let us know and we will gladly come up with solutions for you!
